Analysis of two front covers

The cover on the left is for NME, its typical audience is 25 year old males who are in to  indie/ alternative and like to listen to new bands. The typical Kerrang! Audience would be the same age range and gender with a different taste in music; they would listen to metal and screamo etc. They are both completely different genres of magazines but are set out quite similarly. Like most or all magazines these both have a main image. They are both of a band/ member of a band which is typical of a music magazine, although sometimes they can put movies/ TV programs as their main image. Another similarity is they both have something to do with festivals, NME have Reading/Leeds and Kerrang! Have Download. This is what I’d expect as the genres of music at each festival are what I would associate with these two magazines. NME has the main image of Caleb Followill, the lead singer of Kings of Leon, so this tells us there will be a main feature of them in the magazine, and likewise with Biffy Clyro in Kerrang! Music magazines usually have one main image of an artist/band because it attracts an audience who are fans of the band, and also gives people the opportunity to realise what genre of music will be in the magazine.NME has three pictures on the front cover, all of which are associated with music and all of who were playing at the Reading/Leeds festival that year. This will attract an audience who were attending the festival or people who are interested in the bands playing there. The colours used are red, yellow, black and blue. They use very little blue, only to emphasise the competition they are holding. Kerrang! Uses only three colours black, white and red. All very basic colours, but they have used them so they all stand out. Also holding a competition Kerrang! Have made this stand out by putting it right at the top of the magazine. I think both magazines do well at attracting their target audience especially Kerrang! As they use a lot of dark colours as do NME but the yellow makes it stand out more, and would attract any audience as yellow is a very bright colour.
