This article features the band Avenged Sevenfold, a band Kerrang! Use regularly as they are very popular among the readers. This was written just after the bands drummer The Rev passed away. On the left had side of the article the whole page is taken up by an image of the band, including The Rev, I think this is some sort of memorial, saying that although he is not here anymore he is still very important in the bands success and among fans. Also on the left page in the top left corner the words 'Klassic K!' are used, the misspelling of Classic is obviously deliberate to give alliteration, also saying that Avenged Sevenfold are a classic band is a big compliment and may make people who have never listened to them before have a chance to. The picture shows the band with the lead singer M. Shadows standing at the front, he is the only one with an expression on his face while the rest of the band members faces look blank. This is to show his importance and makes people aware he is the lead member of the band. You will notice they are all wearing dark colours and are holding props such as chains and metal bars. I think this is to show the style of band they are and so people will be able to have a guess at the type of music they produce by looking at the picture. The right hand page is where the article begins, The main colours used are black, white, red and orange, the black and white is used for the background and the text whilst red and orange are used for the header. This is to bring attention to the article, the header for this particular feature is a quote. This is to give the reader a taste of what the article is going to be about. It is in a larger and different font to the rest of the text. It also has a messy look about it as parts of letters are missing, once again an indicator at the style of music. It is also mirrored and enlarged in the background but in grey just to add effect. The introductory paragraph is in different font but is smaller than the heading. It is once again in a messy font and tells you that the article is going to be about the bands story. Behind this is a faded image of their logo, so people can see if they recognise it or not. The article then begins, it starts with an illuminated letter to bring attention to it and so people know it starts there. You can see some interview style questions are included and the questions are put in a different colour to separate them from everything else. The small arrow at the bottom right of the page is to indicate the story continues over the next page.
This feature article is of the band Enter Shikari they are a post hardcore/trance band. This article is simular yet different to the Kerrang! article. The simularities are the colours, they have both used black, white, greys and red. I think as the same audience will listen to Avenged Sevenfold and Enter Shikari, it is very likely that they will be interested in the same style of magazine and they colours attract people of that stereotype. Another notable simularity is is that the left side of the page is mostly taken up by a large picture of the band which often happens in magazines so the reader is attracted to the page because they immediatly know what the article is going to be about. The only difference here is that this has more than one image on the page, it has five smaller images over lapping each other over the main image, I think this attracts readers as images are the first thing people look at rather than words, these grab the attention and will interest the reader more. Instead of having a small intorductory paragraph above the main text, this article has put it on the left page in the top left hand corner so while looking at the images the reader can also look at this. Simuarly the right hand page has a header, although the last one was a quote this is just the name of the band. Another image has been placed behind this text and has been edited so it is a red/orange colour to make it stand out on the black background. From here it is main article/interview. There is points where the writing will stop and there is a quote inserted in a bigger font so you can seperate it from the rest of the texts. Another simularity, and something that is used in a lot of magazines is the first letter of the main text is a lot bigger and put in bold.
